How to choose and judge the best Jojoba

How to choose and judge the best Jojoba
Not all Jojoba is created equal. There are different grades and processing techniques / processes. These have a profound affect on the quality, stability and effectiveness of your Jojoba and the purposes for which you employ your Jojoba.
Grades of Jojoba:
- virgin / first press: this means the Jojoba 'oil' / ester comes from the very first pressing of the seeds - this provides you with the most potent component rich Jojoba
- secondary pressings: this means the Jojoba 'oil' / ester you get comes from a subsequent repressing of the Jojoba seeds crushed during the virgin / first pressing.
Types of Jojoba:
- pure 100% Cold Pressed Jojoba also known as Virgin Jojoba or Cold Pressed Golden Jojoba:
- this is unrefined natural Jojoba
- the best quality Jojoba
- derived from seeds that have been allowed to mature on the bush
- mechanically pressed
- nothing added, nothing removed
- how do I tell:
- is a rich clear golden color
- turns solid at temperatures of 10°C / 50°F or below
- note: when your Jojoba has solidified, simply allow it to warm on its own to room temperature and it will become golden liquid again
- note: Jojoba that has a greenish tinge has been produced from immature seeds and is inferior in quality.
- how do I tell:
- Winterised Jojoba: This is not pure Jojoba. Oils with low solidifying points such as canola oil are mixed with Jojoba to lower it solidifying temperature point and keep it liquid at cooler temperatures. If your Jojoba stays liquid at 10°C / 50°F or below this is a sign that your Jojoba is not pure.
- Bleached Jojoba also known as Lite Jojoba This Jojoba is clear in color, has been actively bleached, for use in white cosmetic and other products - so it will not change their color.
Processing of Jojoba:
- cold pressing:
- is the mechanical pressing of the Jojoba seeds
- is considered to be the best and most natural method of Jojoba extraction / processing
- leaves the beneficial components, such as its vitamins and bioflavinoids, of Jojoba in tact
- no heating or chemicals involved
- produces a premium grade of Jojoba with all its natural benefits
- heating: heat extraction destroys much of the beneficial components, such as its vitamins and bioflavinoids, of Jojoba
- solvents: chemicals are used to extract the esters from the Jojoba
